Catching Up With The Team

As the latest national lockdown rolls on, many of us have now become accustomed to the new normal. Schools closed, pubs shut and those who can should work from home. We’ve all heard it so often that these days it just rolls of the tongue. Life as we know it has changed so much and the ways in which we keep in touch with one another could not be any different.

Human beings are sociable by nature. At the Angel & Crown we pride ourselves on being the hub of the community. People are the centre of this and whilst that often means the patrons we serve, it does also mean the team whom without we could not survive. Throughout the pandemic behind the scenes we have regularly caught up with the team and at late all participated in activities via zoom. This week we got the team to talk to us about how they are finding lockdown, asking everyone the same five questions. Here’s what they had to say:

Tom

What’s keeping you busy during lockdown?

I am a keen musician so at the beginning I did a little bit of recording. Being honest though since the new year I have lacked a bit of motivation so in all honesty I’ve been busy playing Call Of Duty!

What are you missing most about work?

I miss the routine – having a reason and a purpose to get up in the morning. I enjoy being tide down to work and keeping my brain active.

What’s the first thing you are going to do when lockdown ends?

Being able to socialise – seeing friends, talking about football down the pub with a beer!

What is it you are finding most difficult during the latest lockdown?

The boredom is incredibly difficult; apart from going for a walk. What more can you do? I am not someone who has ever just sat home so do now be doing just that is hard. I personally have also found the lack of routine a problem. For example I’m going for a power nap at 4pm and cooking a roast dinner at midnight. Not having a reason to get some sleep and be fresh for work means there’s no consequences for having this habit.

What is it you are enjoying most about the latest lockdown?

Since I was very young I have always been a video games enthusiast. I’m competitive so I enjoy being good at what I do! The one benefit of having so much time is that I have literally spent all day everyday on the console. Getting better and very competitive online with other people – maybe it could be a new career of mine!

Stephen

What’s keeping you busy during lockdown?

I am a really keen artist so amongst looking after and spending time with the children, I have been focusing on my artwork. Its quite broad what I can do really… I have been revamping some old dinning room chairs, doing some paintings and other pieces. I hope to one day be able to sell these products with my own business. So I have been able to keep myself busy.

What are you missing most about work?

Some routine, having a purpose and just the change of scenery really. Cant believe I am saying this but I think I may actually miss Geo a little bit!

What’s the first thing you are going to do when lockdown ends?

I cant wait to go spend time with Charlotte (my other half). Drop the kids off at the grandparents and go for a nice pub lunch. A cold beer and some relaxation time!

What is it you are finding most difficult during the latest lockdown?

It sounds awful but the independence. I spend so much time at work that I am very rarely at home. So to go from one extreme to the next has been difficult. Two children, myself and my girlfriend all in one flat, all the time is not always easy.

What is it you are enjoying most about the latest lockdown?

There is a flipside to the loss of independence… Its a double edge sword really. My children are very young so I have enjoyed being a ‘stay at home dad’ and getting to experience the boys first words, learning to walk. It has been amazing to be here for that!

Gemma

What’s keeping you busy during lockdown?

My little boy is two so he keeps me pretty busy! I find myself tidying up 10 times more. Today in fact I spent a considerable amount of time cleaning play-dough out of the carpet!

What are you missing most about work?

Some space definitely. Being at home all day everyday is exceptionally tiresome. I’m looking forward to a change of scenery. Hopefully it will give me some more motivation. Being able to see people, customers and my team mates.

What’s the first thing you are going to do when lockdown ends?

I am going to the pub, definitely. I am looking forward to seeing friends, having a drink and enjoying a pub roast.

What is it you are finding most difficult during the latest lockdown?

Not going out. My little boy and I would regularly have days out. We would go swimming often, go to museums or just head into central London for a change of scenery. We really enjoy our exploring, so to go from that to housebound has been incredibly difficult. I love living in Mortlake but I am looking forward to having a day away from Mortlake.

What is it you are enjoying most about the latest lockdown?

Getting the house in order really. I have done a lot of decorating and general work on the house and of course spending more time with my son.

Noel

What’s keeping you busy during lockdown?

Not a lot to be honest. Since the first lockdown I have got into my exercise which had this not happened I probably would not of done. During the latest lockdown I am now doing around 5k a day from Hammersmith along the river to Putney.

What are you missing most about work?

The normality and routine mainly. I had only been working at the Angel for 4 days before the latest lockdown so I have hardly been able to settle in! But what I have seen and experienced with the team both physically (before lockdown) and virtually during has been really positive.

What’s the first thing you are going to do when lockdown ends?

Get back to the gym to be honest. I have really started to enjoy my exercise and want to get right back to it as soon as I can. I’m a Chelsea fan for all my sins as well, so of course being down the pub with some mates watching and talking about football is pretty high on the list too!

What is it you are finding most difficult during the latest lockdown?

The boredom. Just the absolute nothingness of day to day life. Even going clothes shopping or wandering round the shops. Not being able to do anything at all so I am very much looking forward to some normality.

What is it you are enjoying most about the latest lockdown?

Its hard to say. As I’ve mentioned the same rigorous repeat of nothing is numbing. However I tend to live quite an intense lifestyle. I’m always either out socially or working long hours, so to have some time out to relax and focus on myself. Certainly with my exercise has been good and I have enjoyed that.

It shouldn’t be long now!

With the governments roadmap now announced, it seems there is light at the end of what has seemed to be a very long tunnel. With this; as a team we cant wait to get back to doing what we do best – entertaining and providing great food with good drinks!

In the meantime however; we continue to support each other and socialise as best we can using technology and for those of you who fancy a laugh. You can also join in with us as we play games and test the knowledge of many! Just check out our social media platforms for all the up to date entertainment.
